Wartburg College?invites nominations (including self-nominations) for the?Irving. R. Burling Distinguished Professor in Leadership with a preferred starting date of August 2019. The successful nominee will be an outstanding scholar and teacher of the theory and practice of leadership and will be engaged with vocational discernment as described below. The successful nominee will direct the Institute for Leadership Education, will contribute to teaching in the leadership program and elsewhere and will champion the college?s missional focus on vocation.

QUALIFICATIONS:??

Required:

o?? A terminal degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent tested experience.? Practitioners of leadership from outside academia are encouraged to apply.

o?? An ability to communicate the value of leadership as a discipline.

o?? A commitment to the mission of Wartburg College, and the ability to further the mission on campus and in the world.

o?? An approach to vocation aligned with the mission of the college.

o?? Relevant teaching experience and evidence of an established record of academic publications or the potential to contribute to the scholarship of leadership.

o?? Promise of continued scholarly prominence.

Preferred:

Demonstrated experience working with non-profit and other organizations in a service-learning/experiential learning context.

RESPONSIBILITIES:?

o?? Teach the equivalent of seven undergraduate courses across the fall, winter, and four-week May term. ?Reassigned time from teaching responsibilities may be available depending on the characteristics, interests and other responsibilities of the successful candidate.

o?? Direct the Institute for Leadership Education (ILE), including administrative oversight and development of curricula and other programs as well as convening the Leadership Working Group.

o?? Develop and strengthen on-campus partnerships (e.g., Student Life, First-Year Seminar, Athletics) that integrate the ILE?s understanding of leadership in ways that enrich student learning and activities.?

o?? Advise students in the leadership minor and post-baccalaureate certificate program.

o?? Supervise administrative staff in the ILE.

o?? In consultation with President and VPAA, develop liaison relationships with external organizations.

o?? Carry out meaningful scholarship related to the required qualifications above.

o?? Provide an annual report summarizing the work and its impact on students, and describe how funding from the Burling Endowment has supported the mission of Wartburg College, enhancing student learning and engagement.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
